Fishing Knot Guide
Double over about 8 inches of your fluorocarbon leader to form a loop. Hold the loop between your thumb and forefinger.
Pass the braid tag end through the loop from the front, leaving 12–15 inches of tag end to work with.
Wrap the braid tag end around both strands of the fluorocarbon loop 7 times going away from you (toward the closed end of the loop).
Now wrap back 7 times in the opposite direction (toward the open end of the loop), crossing over your previous wraps.
Pass the braid tag end back through the fluorocarbon loop from the same side it originally entered.
Wet the entire knot thoroughly. Pull the braid standing line slowly to slide the wraps tight against the loop.
While holding the fluorocarbon loop, pull the braid standing line firmly to fully seat the knot. Trim both tag ends close.
Pro Tip
The Alberto is the go-to knot when fishing heavy braid (30–65 lb) to a fluorocarbon leader — it passes through rod guides smoothly and holds under hard hook sets. Keep the wraps tight and even; loose wraps are the only way this knot fails.
The Alberto Knot (Braid to Fluorocarbon) is best suited for braid-to-leader connection and braid and fluorocarbon and monofilament lines. With a breaking strength of 95%+ line strength, it's a reliable choice for connecting your line to hooks, lures, or swivels. This knot takes a bit of practice to tie consistently, but becomes quick once you have the muscle memory.
