Fishing Knot Guide
Double about 6 inches of line and pass the loop through the eye of the hook.
Tie a simple overhand knot with the doubled line, leaving the hook hanging loose. Do not tighten.
Pass the loop over the hook, sliding it all the way past the point.
Pull both the tag end and the standing line simultaneously to tighten.
Wet the knot before cinching down. Trim the tag end to 1/8 inch.
Pro Tip
This is the strongest knot for most applications. When using braid, double the braid through the eye twice before tying for even more security.
The Palomar Knot is best suited for monofilament and fluorocarbon and braid lines. With a breaking strength of 95%+ line strength, it's a reliable choice for connecting your line to hooks, lures, or swivels. This is an easy knot to learn and should be one of the first knots every angler masters.
