Fishing Knot Guide
Thread 6 inches of line through the hook eye.
Wrap the tag end around the standing line 5–7 times (more wraps for lighter line).
Pass the tag end through the small loop just above the eye, then through the large loop you just created.
Wet the knot and pull the tag end and standing line in opposite directions to tighten.
Slide the knot down to the eye and trim the tag end.
Pro Tip
Use 5 wraps for lines 20 lb and above, 7 wraps for lines 8 lb and below. Always wet this knot — dry tightening weakens it significantly.
The Improved Clinch Knot is best suited for monofilament and fluorocarbon lines. With a breaking strength of 90–95% line strength, it's a reliable choice for connecting your line to hooks, lures, or swivels. This is an easy knot to learn and should be one of the first knots every angler masters.
