Fishing Knot Guide
Thread the line through the hook eye from the front, leaving 8 inches of tag end.
Form a loop with the tag end and hold it alongside the hook shank.
Wrap the tag end around the hook shank and through the loop 7–10 times, working toward the bend.
After the last wrap, pull the tag end firmly through the remaining loop.
Wet the knot and pull the standing line to draw the knot tight against the eye.
Trim the tag end.
Pro Tip
The snell knot aligns the line with the hook shank for a perfectly straight pull — critical for circle hooks and live bait rigs. Use it when fishing live bait for catfish, walleye, or pike.
The Snell Knot is best suited for monofilament and fluorocarbon lines. With a breaking strength of 95%+ line strength, it's a reliable choice for connecting your line to hooks, lures, or swivels. This knot takes a bit of practice to tie consistently, but becomes quick once you have the muscle memory.
